A brief history The earliest known naturist club was in British India founded by Charles Edward Gordon Crawford in 1891. The first British club was founded in 1924 near Wickford in Essex, and was closed down in 1925. Then in May 1927 a new club opened at Bricket Wood near St Albans. The British Sun Bathing society was formed in 1943 and the British Federation of Sun Clubs was formed in 1964. The two merged and became the BN. British Naturism, an internationally recognized organization that can provide information on clubs beaches/ holidays and also runs events and a quarterly magazine for its members. Today there are about 130 clubs in the UK most of which welcome visitors and take new members throughout the year.
